2010 - The Europeanisation of Sweden
Sweden has now been a member of the EU for 15 years. According to the Democratic Audit of Sweden 2010, the country's relationship with the Union is still characterised by excessive caution and a tendency to regard membership either as a marginal change or, in some instances, even as a threat.

2008 - Polls and media
Opinion polls have become a standard ingredient in everyday public life, not only during election campaigns. The importance of polls is enhanced by media. Journalists often play a triple role, when they commission, publish and interpret polls. The purpose of this book is to analyze the interplay between polls and media.

2007 - Freedom of the press in Sweden
Swedish press freedom has long and proud traditions, but today mass media and journalists find themselves under public pressure. There is widespread support among politicians and voters for stricter legislation aimed at reducing the liberty of media. The SNS Democratic Audit of Sweden is worried that these trends might hamper critical journalism and public debate.

2006 - Media and elections in Sweden
Few Swedes get personally involved in Swedish election campaigns. Most contacts between parties and voters are indirect. Mass media play a vital role, but the SNS Democratic Audit finds indications that
media influence may be ebbing. Media and elections in Sweden is the subject of the 2006 report.

2004 - A new constitution for Sweden
Can democratic governance and public policy in a mature democracy like Sweden’s be improved through constitutional reform? Can widely perceived problems in the political life of such a country, including growing popular mistrust of the political establishment, be remedied by changing the rules of the political game? These are some of the questions addressed in the SNS 2004 Democratic Audit of Sweden.

2003 - Democracy in the EU
The European Convention must be considered a successful experiment. The Convention has worked better than the methods previously used when preparing EU reforms. The Convention method has democratic qualities such as a relative broad participation, openness and, on most issues, an atmosphere of constructive compromise.

2002 - Democracy without accountability
Governments lose elections, but retain power. The weak link between voter opinion and government formation indicates that the principal-agent chain of representative democracy is not working properly. In this sense democracy lacks accountability. Elected representatives and the political system are not particularly responsive to voter signals.

2001 - Transnational democracy
Globalisation and Europeanisation need not lead to a weakening of democratic government. Major - though as yet unexploited - opportunities exist for strengthening the democratic aspects of international politics. These involve a policy committed to creating a democracy without borders.

2000 - Democracy without parties?
The research group draws attention to the declining membership figures for the parties and considers that this trend gives cause for concern. If the trend continues at the same rate, the parties will have lost their entire membership within ten years.

1999 - Democracy the Swedish way
Sweden lacks a public space for the discussion of European issues and that the reform which allowed voting for individual candidates was little better than a half-measure and one that failed. In the view of the authors, Sweden can definitely develop into a better constitutional democracy.

1998 - Democracy and citizenship
Today Swedes participate less in politics. There is also a drop or stagnation over the whole span of political resources from the ability to write a formal complaint about a decision of a public agency to active involvement in political meetings, participation in demonstrations, direct contact with decision-makers, and voter turnout.

1997 - Democracy across borders
Voters give Swedish democracy a bad grade. Few citizens believe that the relationship between voters and their elected representatives within the European Union works well. Members of the public even consider popular government at the national level and in their own county councils as inadequate. Only municipal democracy receives a passing grade from voters.

1996 - Democracy and leadership
There are several circumstances in Swedish politics that facilitate democratic leadership but that there are also several characteristics of the system that prohibit its development. The SNS Democratic Audit clearly shows that a serious problem is the unclear division of roles and responsibilities among the various political actors involved in democratic government.

1995 - Democracy as dialogue
The 1995 report established three main aspects as essential for democracy. They are citizen rule, rule of law (Rechtsstaat) and government performance. These normative demands for popular, constitutional and effective government are operationalized in thirteen criteria.
