Seminar

IIES/SNS International Policy Talks: Gabriel Zucman on tax evasion and inequality

How large is tax evasion at the international level and in Scandinavia? What are the effects for inequality in society? And how can tax evasion be reduced?

Gabriel Zucman, Researcher of Economics at University of California, Berkeley, conducts research on the above subjects. Using new micro data, together with colleagues he has studied the size and distribution of tax evasion in the Scandinavian countries.

Zucman comes to SNS to present his latest research on tax evasion, how it affects inequality and efficient measures for reducing tax evasion. In 2015, he published the book The Hidden Wealth of Nations: The Scourge of Tax Havens.

Per Krusell and Åsa Hansson will participate in the seminar – both researchers in Economics. Åsa Hansson is one of the members of the SNS Economic Policy Council 2018, the topic of which will be the size and distribution of capital in Sweden.

IIES/SNS International Policy Talks is a collaboration between the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) at Stockholm University and SNS with the mission to bring insights from leading international economists to the Swedish policy debate.

The seminar will be held in English.
