Opportunities and Challenges with Public-private Partnerships

Edward Farquharson besöker SNS.

Public-private partnerships (PPPs) have the potential to combine the efficiency, expertise, and resources of the private sector with the public sector’s ability to deliver large-scale infrastructure and its responsibility to serve the public good. When designed well, PPPs can foster innovation in key sectors such as transport, energy, and water.

At the same time, PPPs are complex. They require robust legal and institutional frameworks, effective risk allocation, and long-term political commitment. In Sweden, PPPs have only been used to a limited extent, but interest is growing — particularly considering increasing infrastructure needs and pressure on public budgets.

We are pleased to invite you to a hearing with Edward Farquharson, Senior Adviser at the European Investment Bank (EIB), to discuss how PPPs can be successfully implemented and what lessons might be relevant in a Swedish context.

The meeting is part of SNS’s research project SNS Infra.
