Blockchain in the public sector – how can the technology be used?

time and place

Friday 30 November 2018, 10:00–11:15
SNS, Jakobsbergsgatan 18, Stockholm

The private sector is a frontrunner when it comes to using and implementing the blockchain technology – one of the most hyped new technologies of our time. But what are the opportunities and the potential of blockchain usage in the public sector?

When the value of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin peaked in the fall of 2017 and made international headlines, a lot of people also heard about its underlying technology for the very first time – the blockchain. This technology is mostly associated with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and financial markets in general, but the potential areas of usage cover a much wider range. Land title registries, medical records and online voting systems are just some of the possible blockchain applications that have recently received attention.

Charlotta Nilsson, Vice President Emerging Services & Portfolio Management at Tieto, presents a solution for founding and registering private businesses based on the blockchain technology that Tieto have developed in Finland.

The presentations are followed by panel discussions including comments from Juho Lindman, University of Gothenburg, Peter Krantz, Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL), Andreas Mårtensson, Swedish Ministry of Finance, and Henrik Hjelte, ChromaWay – the company that supplied the technology used in Lantmäteriet’s blockchain project.
