IIES/SNS International Policy Talks: Magne Mogstad on developments in disability insurance

time and place

Thursday 15 December 2016, 08:00–09:15
SNS, Jakobsbergsgatan 18, Stockholm

What are the causes and consequences of the rise in the disability insurance receipt?

Over the past 50 years, many developed countries have seen a large and steady rise in participation rates in various sickness and disability related programmes. To limit this growth, several countries have significantly tightened disability screening criteria, and many others are considering similar policies. What are the effects of these enhanced gate-keeping policies? For the disability insurance applicants and their families as well as the taxpayers? How does participation in disability programmes reinforce itself across generations?

Professor Magne Mogstad´s research focuses on public economics, economic inequality and labor economics. At his IIES/SNS International Policy Talk Mogstad will present his current research on disability insurance systems and family welfare cultures.

IIES/SNS International Policy Talks is a collaboration between the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) at Stockholm University and SNS with the mission to bring insights from leading international economists to the Swedish policy debate.
