Towards a more sustainable global economy. What global economic policy changes are needed?
On Monday, 12 December, Raghuram Rajan, one of the world’s most influential economists, visits SNS for a conversation about the major forces that are defining the world economy today and the challenges that are to come. The meeting will be moderated by Klas Eklund, Senior Economist at SEB.
Professor Rajan will address challenges such as growing inequality, the downward mobility of the middle classes worldwide, debt-fuelled growth, close to zero-interest rates, protectionism and the risks of political backlashes. There will be time for Q&A and interaction with the audience.
Professor Raghuram Rajan was, until September, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and has now returned to Booth School at University of Chicago. He is the author of “Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy” (2010), for which he was awarded the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year in 2010, and former Economic Counselor and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund.
The meeting will be held in English.
Participants
Raghuram Rajan, Professor of Finance at the Booth School, University of Chicago. He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India between September 2013 and September 2016. Between 2003 and 2006, Dr. Rajan was the Economic Counselor and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund.
